Rich has been teaching his students engineering and math concepts using Rokenbok for a decade. In addition to using Rokenbok in his classroom he also loads everything into a 24-foot truck to bring to a summer camp for special needs children called Camp Discovery.

Rich was chosen as Teacher of the Year in Valley Stream for two consecutive years and we think we know why. His hands on learning approach keeps kids engaged, fulfilled and wanting more.

Kids learn to apply engineering principals, cooperation, and teamwork through hands on exploration. The gigantic build you see below comes together over a five-week period in which the kids work together with mentors to build this fantastic creation.

Rich explains, "Rokenbok is wonderful for problem solving, interaction, delayed gratification and can be as simple (like a wrestling arena) or as complicated as the children want it to be and by the limitations of the space and parts that you have. In terms of actual lessons, Rokenbok is wonderful for geometry...especially perimeter, area and volume. Angled blocks can teach how to use a protractor. I like the fact that it promotes interaction, teamwork and that there is usually no single answer to a problem."
